The Noise…

Rob could hear the air singing in his ears and for a fleeting moment he was transported to the chorus of musicals in the Broadway theater. He barely felt the feet touch the ground. The rush of air on his face gave him more adrenaline rush to sprint faster…

He won the race by literally 4 meters during the 100 meter dash. He was exuberant. He turned, and his eyes roved through the crowds. They rested on his dad who was on a call and his mom who was checking her mobile. He felt a numbness set in and all noises dimmed… his thoughts echoed more loudly than ever before… The noise was over whelming within his head than outside… he closed his ears…

20 years later…

He watched on as she threw her tantrums as usual, stuffing her things in her suitcase. It left him wondering, exactly where had he gone wrong? It somehow felt like a dream and he felt the familiar numbness setting in, with the echoes of his thoughts resonating yet again…

The numbness had helped in a lot of ways. Like 10 years back, especially when Mom had left them due to the “other woman in her life” and he was stuck with dad who wasn’t exactly the best companion to have around.

And today, when he had tried to do everything his dad hadn’t done for him, it just wasn’t enough for Monica anymore. Her whims and fantasies seemed like a gorge with no bottom, and he was tired. She tried to hurt him by taking his daughter, Lindsey with her. Well, girl child, nothing much he could do there either… he sighed within.

After a week, the notice came, and he had to satiate Monica with all he had. Now, he stood on the road side, with a back pack and 5000 $ in hand…

10 years later… 10 minutes before The Present

Cold lightened her touch on his forehead as heat probed his way forward through the morning rays. He opened his eyes and smiled, as the sun peeped beautifully from among the mountains. The sound of the water flowing near by, added to the serenity, as a gentle breeze caressed him.

A kiss and a hug woke him from his trance, as she hugged him from behind. He turned to look at her beautiful face, fresh like the morning dew. He patted her head and smiled. Both of them, looked on at the new day that rose, as it yawned the night into dawn with the gentle breeze. The breeze was caressing them both now… They bathed in the rays as they sat in the disappearing mist… lost in the beauty of nature and her elegance…

5 years back…

Menial works and pavement sleep, with the dream of peace and solitude led him to meet Rachel in Bangkok in the Buddhist Monastry. From there, the pair of resolute solitude seekers set their eyes on Aogashima, a gorgeous volcanic island around 358 km south of Tokyo, Japan. Probably one of the most remote, hidden and naturally blessed islands in the Izu archipelago and, not everyone was aware of the fact that the whole island was nothing but a volcanic crater. To reach here was very difficult and to leave, even more.

Thus, far from the madding crowd, they had created a cottage from bamboo, over a rivulet of water. The soothing sound flowed perennial, adding to the ambiance of peace, quiet and love. From there they sat, and ignited their passion to write books, which were sent to the publisher once a year. They didn’t need the proceeds. Nature had blessed them well. Nobody knew who they were or where they lived & that was fine by them. The World clamored, while they rested. And that was perfect. He didn’t have anymore noise within his head and he smiled from his heart.

The Present…

“Shall go down dad? Mom is waiting for us”, Lindsey asked him.

His Lindsey… who had come in search of him… His angel… She helped publish the books… she changed the world through her actions… and he did… through his words…

He nodded, and he rose with Lindsey. They walked down to the cottage. He could see Rachel from far, standing by the window looking out for them.

His Rachel… His silence… and he smiled from his heart… yet again…
