Jackson and Rose were very excited as they ran behind the stumbling toddler. The bundle of joy had a name – George. And he had given them happiness from the time he had caressed their fingers in his baby palm.
As he grew …
It pained them when he cried. It hurt them more when he fell learning to walk. They felt inadequate, no matter what they did for him. Anything they did, they just wanted him to keep smiling and be happy. They missed him when he wasn’t around. And when he was, they were at peace…
Grown
That fateful day, when Jackson was walking with George to drop him off at college, George turned around and said,”Dad, I can take it from here. I have grown”.
Jackson stood there, pang in his heart, but a smile on his lips as he watched his son walk on, on his own. He knew that he could only be a silent partner for his son, as he faced all the struggles and the pain now. He wasn’t to hold the burden anymore. George fell in love with Jamie.
Jackson and Rose were happy. He had chosen, studied and now earned. So shall it be – and George got married.
Then the phone rang one day, George was on the other side, and he broke the news. Their granddaughter was born. Jackson and Rose were happy. They could now see and play with their grandchild too. Reminiscence hit with a sigh, as they thought over how Jackson had grown…
George stood in the room as he watched his kid, Sara play. As Sara grew into a toddler, he too felt the pain when she got hurt. It started paining him when she cried. It started hurting when she fell. And he started to feel inadequate no matter what he did for her…
He realized the inevitable and with tears pricking his eyes, he picked the phone and made the call…
Back to where he left
He spoke on the phone, “Now I know why I make decisions and look at life the way I do. I never grew out from you, and I don’t think I ever can. Thank you for everything, Dad and mom.”
Jackson and Rose choked back their tears and Rose replied said with a smile for both of them,”So did we son… so did we.”
