The Sky was blue and the autumn had set in. Multi colored leaves filled one’s eyes. The ground was speckled with kids, who were skipping by and playing on the ground. The giggles and the laughter filled the air. The ladies kept chatting about their stay-at-home life styles, and the things they dreamt and wanted to do.

A screech and a thud. All turned and looked with horror at the van smeared with a blotch of blood and 29 year old Laura lying on the road. She had rushed to pick the flying disc. What she didn’t realize was the van that was hurtling round the corner along the road she stood. The Van driver it seems at the same nick, had taken it for granted to check his messages, because the road seemed devoid of traffic.

Mona sat with tears next to her mom as she bled profusely in the ambulance, scared and worried all the while. Praying fervently, she kept soothing her mom.

Roy, got a the phone call while he was packing to head home. Thunder rolled and lightening struck within him. He couldn’t hear his boss as he walked like a zombie to the car to head to the hospital.

Dr Zack, looked at the swelling and knew the answer was not good. He hoped for a miracle that could possibly never happen. He needed a heart transplant right about now! Considering the long list of already waiting heart patients, he didn’t know how he could possibly take this up, not to mention the unless Laura got a donor for herself.

As Roy, stood there in total numbness, a small hand palmed his palm. He looked down into Mona’s eyes and fighting back tears he said,”Don’t worry baby, your mom will be safe”. He hoped he sounded cheerful enough for the toddler.

He got a tap on his shoulder. It was Dolly. His neighbor. She was slightly older than Laura. Roy, broke down as Dolly consoled him and then Dolly whispered something into his ear. Mona was watching as Dolly hugged Roy and they stood in silence. The nurse near by took Mona by her hand and lead her down to the room to tuck her in. It was night and time to sleep.

Two months later.

Laura and Roy with Mona in Roy’s hands entered their home. Mona was happy and excited as she ran about the house exploring her dear home again. In the evening, they went to Dolly’s house. The moment, they entered, Mona rushed in screaming from room to room searching for Rachel. She had gone to college, but if she was home, she would hide and Mona would find her. That was their deal…

She came back dejected saying Rachel was missing. Dolly scooped her up and hugged her tight. Turned her to her mother, pointing at her, said,”Rachel is now there”.
