Jim, licked her up from sleep and she ruffled his labrador fur as he wagged his tail and looked into her sleepy eyes. She smiled benignly and gently nudged him off her. She got off the bed and pulled her specs on. Brand new day needed a brand new smile. She shrugged off her tiredness, stretched her stiff limbs and started her day. Out went the pair for a walk, and they wished the entire neighborhood. Back they came and had breakfast together. Jim was her favorite, and her best friend, because he never asked for more than her love and food. The unspoken connection she shared with him, helped her soothe herself multiple times.
Oh and today was a special day. It was her first day of College ! She was starting her life !
She had taken a house close to the campus just so that she could walk down to the classes. Buses were a mess and traffic was not her cup of tea. She had ensured that Jim knew the campus better than her even before she had joined. Just so that he would wait out for her when she comes out of the class. Lest, she forgets her way back !
Especially given that her direction sense was horrible !
Jim walked with her to the edge of the campus and the security was kind enough to accommodate him, as already pre-arranged. The security soothed him, but Jim just didn’t understand why she was walking away from him. He howled after her a few times and eventually resigned himself to his fate. He was in slight trepidation, but decided to trust that she would come back. She had told him that she would…
Knees trembling… heart beating wild… she slowly stepped into the class. The stage fright was consuming her from inside out. The murmur of the class stopped, as people saw her. Hushed, conspirational whispers in the background pricked her ears. She walked into the class and each step now sounded like the war drums of the ancients…
She took a deep breath, and continued walking towards the podium that looked at the entire class and said, “Hi guys, I am Daisy. Where do I sit for the class here? This is my first class and I know I am coming in between a term. I just don’t want to disturb anybody’s seating arrangements. So, would somebody be kind enough to accommodate me?”. One girl on the front row waved her over saying,”I am Angie. Come on over and sit next to me Daisy”.
Daisy almost skipped her way to the seat, with relief that she was accepted after all.
Angie however, couldn’t control her curiosity and giggling naughtily she asked,”You are definitely not into your teen ! And I will not ask your age since it’s bad manners to ask a woman’s age, so let me re-phrase my curiosity. What’s the secret that made you join us now?”
“Well my darling, I don’t let the Old Woman in”, replied the 78 year old Daisy, with a twinkle in her eye…
Would be a great encouragement, if you could like & follow.
